Sufficient

“Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength” (Spurgeon)

God’s grace is sufficient for every moment we will face in life. Often while going through  seasons of change, deep-seated fears are stirred up and feelings of uncertainty can overwhelm us.

The truth is that even if all our worst fears come true, the Lord promises to provide sufficient grace moment-by-moment. The apostle Paul had a physical ailment that he begged God to take away from him but the Lord reminded him that His grace is enough. God’s strength is most visible in human weakness- not when we feel strong and in control. We all long to be able to control the circumstances around us but God knows what we need the most are opportunities to learn to depend on Him at all times, in increasing measures.

Isn’t it true that we sense God to be closest in the hardest times of life? His grace is always sufficient and timely. I heard it said recently in a sermon that “God anticipates the needs of His children.” What a beautiful and comforting thought to meditate upon!  This is why we can trust in the Lord with all of our heart and lean not on our own understanding. Whatever our need, God already knows it and cares about it. He has supplied all the strength that is needed for today and tomorrow there will be a fresh supply of strength. God’s mercies are new every morning as His goodness follows every day of our lives. There is no need to worry about what might happen tomorrow.

The Lord already knows exactly what the future holds and there is only one thing we can know for sure- God has promised to never leave or forsake us. He knows those who find their refuge in Him.

Therefore, we should not be anxious about tomorrow. Our Father in Heaven cares for all the birds in the sky and all the flowers in the field- are we not more valuable than they? God has all the days of our life planned out, has numbered all the hairs on our head, keeps a record of all of our tears and has provided abundantly for our deepest need. He didn’t even spare His own Son for our sake- rather sent Him, Jesus, to be the sacrifice for all of our sins so that through faith, we can be reconciled to God and know His daily tender care.  When fear of the future starts to creep in, look to the cross and remember Christ’s sufficient, eternally secured grace!
