The Christian life is a day-by-day endeavor.
Life happens in the moment-to-moment decisions.
Godliness grows as we fix our eyes on Jesus step-by-step.
My greatest desire for this new year is to start each morning on my knees in prayer asking the Lord to help me to love and serve Jesus as I should for the present day. I can get so caught up in thinking and worrying about the future, that I lose sight of the need to seek God’s strength for the present day. Each day is a new opportunity to seek to honor God. Every day is filled with moments to steward to the best of my ability for the glory of God.
The truth is we can’t handle another day’s challenges and worries, the grace for that trouble is still coming. God has only given us the ability to carry what today holds with His empowering grace. Tomorrow belongs to the Lord. We are given strength each and every day as we continually look to Jesus to find rest for our soul, and in the process our heart will remain close to and tender towards Him.
It is easy to become overwhelmed when we try to look ahead at the coming year with all of its ups and downs. Yet as we take things step-by-step and day-by-day we are reminded of God’s sufficiency. As Christians we do not do this life alone and we can find great assurance in the truth that God has already planned out each day of our lives.
I pray that we will all start each day of this new year fully dependent on the Lord’s strength, seeking to love and obey Jesus as best as we can in each step of that day. May we trust that His grace will always be sufficient for every day; and because of God’s gracious, unending love every day is a fresh opportunity to walk with Jesus!
“Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!”
