God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. (Psalm 43:1-3)
It is easy to be fearful of the future of this world and to grieve at the state of it. There is much trouble, pain and strife to mourn. Yet as we mourn all the brokenness and lostness we see all around us, as Christians we can grieve with great hope for the future. We know the ending of the story and it’s going to be glorious for those who know and love Christ. We can be confident that one day everything will be made right finally.
It is right to be troubled at all the evil and deception in the world. It is good to be concerned about the future our children will face. We should care deeply about all the pain and suffering people are facing across the world. We need to strive to uphold the truth of God in great love, knowing that faithfulness to the commands of God will lead to flourishing.
It is essential though to do these things in hope. Jesus Christ is still building His Church. God is still on His throne ruling with perfect wisdom and justice. He is still the answer to all the longings of our heart. He won’t ever lose one soul He has ordained to save. Nothing will ever be able to separate those who know Jesus from His unfailing love. God is truly our refuge and strength. He is our ever-present help even when it seems like this world is falling apart.
Because of Jesus, for the Christian, the future is still as full of hope as ever! Our Savior is still making all things new, beginning in our hearts. As we go through this life, let us use every opportunity to tell others about who Jesus is and why He is the source of our hope at all times!
