Influencers

In today’s world it is very common to see influencers and long to have the kind of effect they have. Comparison is easier more than ever in this social media world. Our heart often longs for the recognition and applause we see others receive.

The Lord gives us all different levels of giftings, spheres of influence and we will all be accountable for how we impacted the people in our lives. God puts us all in different positions for different reasons.

When we start noticing and comparing our spot in life with another’s, let us consider what a huge responsibility it is to have a large platform. I don’t think we always understand the cost and the burden it is to be famous.  There is a potential for it to be used for much good or much harm.  With a large platform, comes increased temptation for pride and other sins. When someone is faithfully spreading the truth of Jesus, we can be sure Satan will try whatever He can to tarnish that message.

God has each of us where we are for a specific reason. He knows what is best for us and we are who we are only by the grace of God. Instead of constantly comparing our different sizes of influence, let us pray for each other that we will be faithful and obedient in whatever position God gives us. Let us strive to be like the apostle Paul when he invites us to follow him as he follows Jesus. No matter how many people we have watching us, we can live our life in a way that points others to the goodness of following Jesus.

When we see God giving others a large amount of influence, we should be celebrating the ways God is using them to take the gospel to those who need to hear it. God’s word will never return void so let us spur on those who are actively spreading it for the glory of God. Some are called to plant seeds of the gospel, others will be called to water them but in all cases it is God who gives the growth. Therefore, we simply need to be faithful with the opportunities God entrusts to us. In Matthew 25 the faithful servant with 2 talents and the faithful servant with 5 talents heard the same words from Jesus “well done good and faithful servant.”

Some people will have millions of people they reach, others will have just a few. Whatever lot we are given, if we do all that we do for the praise of God’s glorious grace, more people will hear of the treasure of Jesus and He will be well-pleased.
