Wind and Waves

While at the cottage this past summer, I got to go paddle-boarding a number of times. The feeling of being on the water, with the warm breeze all around you is one of the best parts of summer!

One particular time when I went, my heart was filled with many emotions as I was processing some things happening in my life. As I sat upon my paddle board, an illustration of what the christian life is like came to my mind.

The paddle board is like the Word of God: it is a firm foundation that can be stood upon (or sat upon in my case 😀) While going through the waves and wind, it keeps us secure. We still feel the effects of the wind and the waves. We don’t always see what is ahead but as long as we stay centered on it, we are carried through the choppy waters.

The hurts of this broken world will be a reality until Jesus comes back to make all things new. Sometimes it is our own foolishness that causes the waves, other times we have no control over the upcoming waves. Jesus promised us that we will experience trouble in this world but as long as we hold onto the Word of God tightly, we will be able to ride out the waves. Even in the times we stumble and fall, the Word of God will always be a strong foundation we can climb back onto. It will always remain steady and unchanging in every storm.

God’s word gives us blessed hope and confidence in all the different waves and wind we experience.  There will always be trouble in this world but through Jesus, we will overcome because He has already overcome this world through His death and resurrection.
