The Wonder of Forgiveness

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)

We can lose the wonder of the gift of grace and forgiveness. We can be so guilty of taking those concepts for granted especially if we have heard about them for a long time.

In Jesus, we experience the full majesty and worth of the gift of forgiveness. In all of His love, God sent His Son to this earth to be a living example of how He is a God who is always eager and ready to forgive. When we were still His enemies, Christ died for us so that we can truly experience grace and forgiveness when we turn to Him. Our sins aren’t just swept under the carpet but they are removed from us as far as the east is from the west because Jesus paid the penalty of our sin on the cross. When we confess our sins, He will be faithful to forgive us because Jesus came into the world to save, and not to condemn, sinners.

When forgiveness and grace move from being concepts in our mind to something we experience personally and practically, we are forever changed. Nothing is better than the knowledge of being completely forgiven. Additionally by God’s grace, he sends people into our lives who are living examples of the grace of God. What a gift is is to experience grace instead of condemnation, to receive mercy instead of justice. It is so precious to hear words of forbearance and kindness when words of anger and disapproval are merited.

As we become more aware of how constantly we are shown the perfect and full grace of God, we are empowered to extend it to the people around us.

May we never lose the wonder of grace.

May we never get over the indescribable gift of forgiveness because our lives will be transformed the more we recognize how much forgiveness we are shown each day.

May the Lord help us to love each other deeply from the heart for love covers a multitude of offenses with forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the most precious gift we can receive and it is the best gift that we can give to others.

  1. Cheryl, I want to let you know the LORD used your article about forgiveness. I saw it on Tim Challies website, and had prayed asking the LORD to help me and I saw your article.

    thank you for writing this.
