He Answered Me and Delivered Me

“I sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears…

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.

Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.” -Psalm 34

Every Christian has and will go through times when God seems distant and uncaring. Every Christian sometimes wonders if the Lord is hearing any of their prayers and if He is willing to answer any of their requests. We believe that God is all-knowing and ever-present in our lives but sometimes it is very hard to see evidence of that reality.

Psalm 34 provides beautiful assurances and promises in these difficult times. When we seek the Lord, He will answer us and He will deliver us from our fears. It is not a question of if but of when. The Lord’s answering and delivering is a promise we can build our lives upon. Yet as Christians, we have to continually learn to submit to the Lord’s timing and not our own. His deliverance often does not happen as quick as we want but it will always happen at the perfect time. Just like a skilled doctor, God knows what we need and when we need it to produce healing and spiritual growth.

I’m learning that even in the times I don’t see God at work, I can still taste and see His goodness. The Lord is often so kind to provide little glimpses of His care when I need them the most.

The truth is God is always so faithful to deliver me from my fears when I seek Him. More importantly, He has already provided the deliverance I need the most: forgiveness of my sin the moment I turned to Jesus in faith and repentance.

May the Lord give all of us the strength to trust that He will deliver us from all of our fears in His perfect timing. It may not happen as quick as we want but it will happen because God is faithful to His promises. As we wait, let us seek the Lord through spending time in His Word, in prayer and through spending time with His people.  We are always blessed when we find our refuge in the Lord; and one day He will deliver us from all the troubles and fears of this life once-for-all when we are in Heaven with our faithful Saviour.
